My commitment to voters
I will fight for sound government if elected by:
- Supporting open and transparent administration of government policies
- Supporting term limits for City Councillors and the Mayor
- Lowering property taxes and repealing the Toronto Land Transfer Tax
- Focusing spending on infrastructure like roads, the sewage system, the water system and public transit and eliminating duplication, waste and non-essential spending
- Being fiscally responsible, I will support balanced budgets and debt elimination to reduce costs to the taxpayer
Heath’s steps to fiscal well-being for the City of Toronto
- Privatize garbage collection by contracting it out to private garbage companies, which will reduce overhead costs to the City
- We could sell City owned land that is being unused and pay off the City's debt.
- Establish with the proceeds from the sale of unused City owned land, a rainy day fund to protect against future deficits to keep taxes down
- Another possibility is the sale of Toronto Hydro as well if the City can get a deal that makes financial sense.
- Support an effort to make the TTC profitable and financially self-sufficient while maintaining a high level of accessibility and excellent customer service for the people of Toronto and Ward 44 or turn it over to the province.
- Sell the City owned ski hills and contract out services for rinks and other services that could be operated by private enterprise.
- Implement a hiring freeze at City Hall and seek to reduce the size of the City Hall bureaucracy over the long term to reduce labour costs where possible.
Surplus = yes, over-taxing = yes!
